US BSO Business Intelligence and Analytics team provides insights to help customers/partners/resellers view and plan their business, driving quota success. This team currently builds reports regarding sales and consumption of Microsoft’s offerings from the on-prem/legacy systems like SQL Server which are not scalable up to the demand.
Business Problem
US BSO Business Intelligence and Analytics team provides insights to help customers/partners/resellers view and plan their business, driving quota success. The overall system is currently running on On-prem (VM’s, SQL, SSIS). We have very limited scope to improve the performance and to on-board new source data ex: EDLP , CALC & Convergi (all hosted on ADLS currently). It is also difficult to scale up/scale down when needed.
Solution
APPROACH TAKEN TO IMPLEMENT THE SOLUTION
Migrating the existing on-prem(legacy system) to Azure cloud platform i.e., moving from IAAS to PAAS and leverage the Azure resources like ADF v2, Azure Data Bricks, Azure SQL and logic apps.

- Less time to process big datasets like Oppty & CALC.
Why is the solution unique
With the help of this idea HCL team, which was earlier extracting, transforming and managing similar data on-prem is now able to perform all this activities on Azure . This enabled them to integrate new ADLS source systems, streamline data loads. This brings a cohesiveness in all the work streams through data integration. Resources can be utilized for better productivity, ideation and learning/training.

The primary advantage of the Migration is for the end users. Here the beneficiaries are Sales field team and executive leadership at Microsoft. The unfired and the intelligence associated with it will help them have efficient decision making which is otherwise not available or there is a tedious path to it.
